Dental implants are more like a one-time investment. You can talk to the dentist about insurance options before surgery to lift the burden of implants off your shoulders.
- Require Surgery For Placement
Although oral, dental implants are still major surgery. There is a 5-10% chance of failure of surgery. The dentist needs to make an incision on the gums, and drill a hole in the jaw bone before placing an implant. The risks of a dental implant include infection, damage to other teeth, nerve damage, gum bleeding, nerve damage, etc. If the patient is willing to take these risks, then they can have dental implants.
- Bone Loss Around Implants
It is common to lose bones around your implant. Although dental implants are inserted to retain jawbones, they may also contribute to the issue. The implant might fail to hold on to the jawbone too. The patient might need bone grafting surgery if they lose too much bone around the implants.
- Improper Implant Placement
Inexperienced dentists charge less than most dentists. This makes them more appealing to some patients. Dental implants are a major oral surgery procedure. It takes a steady hand to drill into the jaw and insert the titanium screw. That is why you should always have your surgery performed by highly skilled and experienced dentists.
- Restorations Need Replacement
Dental crowns are attached on top of implant. Over time, these crowns can wear down. There might be various reasons for this- crown can be chipped or cracked, staining, loose crown, etc. The dentist needs to make a new crown if such incidents occur.
